Civil War Geography Flashcards
Where was Bolshevik Control?
Had control of largest land masses - largest populations so more people under their influence and oppression.
Had control of key cities such as Petrograd and Moscow- industrial hubs.
Had access to the Trans-Siberian railroad, controlling imports and exports. It also allowed for the Rapid movement of troops and supplies.
Reds were all united and centralised- however more vulnerable to attack and were always on the offensive.
Reds were’t believed to win as the only occupied 1/6 of Russia.
Where was White control?
Whites were unlucky geographically- fewer population, areas were less industrialised so therefore less production.
Size of Russia worked against them which was intensified by the lack of railways.
Whites were not unified: Generals Deniken and Wrangel were located in the south, Admiral Kolchak in the North-East, and General Yudenich in the West.
Nationalists controlled smaller areas such as Georgia. They wanted self-determination.
Where was Green control?
Forces controlled small areas mainly in Ukraine. Their resources were limited and they were surrounded by whites.
