What war technique did they use?
Trench warfare
Soldiers and civilians were killed by the thousands and an entire generation of people who were lucky to survive became known as “The Lost Generation”
What major event caused WW1?
On June 28th, the heir to the Austria-Hungary throne, Franz Ferdinand was travelling with his wife Sophie when an assassin from a Serbian terrorist group know as “The Black Hand” shot the couple to death.
What happened after Franz Ferdinand and Sophie died?
Austria-Hungary blamed the Serbian government for the murders & declared war on Serbia the following month. Austria-Hungary knew that Serbia allied with Russia, but didn’t believe they would get involved.
Who honoured there agreement with Serbia?
Russia,
They immediately began mobilizing there huge army
What happened after Russia mobilized it army?
Germany responded by coming to the assistance of Austria Hungary & declared war on in Russia.
Why did Germany invade Belgium?
Because France was allied with Russia, France and Germany declared war on each other. So Germany immediately invaded Belgium to have the easiest route to France.
What happened the following day?
Britain declared war in defence of France & Belgium & many of her colonies ( Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) immediately joined the war.
Why were Austria-Hungary & Germany unlucky?
Because Italy did not honour there agreement to assist them in war. Italy stayed out of the war until 1915 when they joined against her former partners.
Who claimed they won the war?
Americans
The United States sold weapons & supplies to Britain. They did t join the war until 1917 with a year to go. The United States made a fortune from selling supplies & as a result became the world biggest economic powers.
Why did Russia have problems in her own country?
The Russian citizens were in the process of over throwing there leader.
What was WW1 supposed to be?
“The War To End All Wars”
