1.9 Immunity Flashcards
Why do we use vaccines?
When the vaccine is injected, our white blood cells react by producing the necessary antibodies, which means if someone gets an active version of this pathogen then the white blood cells already know which antibodies to make to destroy the pathogens
How do vaccines make people immune?
The body responds quickly by producing more antibodies when it recognises the antigens on the pathogen
What is an antigen?
The protein shake on the pathogen
Name an immunisation vaccination
The MMR vaccination again measles, mumps and rubella
What types of pathogens can vaccines protect us against?
Bacteria and viruses
What is a vaccine?
An injection of a dead or inactive pathogen
