Q

Why do plants rely on osmosis

A

Support stem and leaves, water moves in causing vacoule to swell to support it.

Q

Explains the steps of turgor pressure

A

Water moves into cell by osmosis - vacoule swells - cytoplasm pressed against cell wall - cell becomes rigid - leaves and stem become rigid

Q

What happens if the fluid surrounding the cell is hypertonic

A

Water leaves cell, no longer be firm and swollen become flacid, no pressure. Plant wilts no longer support.

Q

What is plasmolysis

A

When more water is lost the vacoule and cytoplasm shrink, cell membrane pulls away (shrivel) from cell wall. Usually in laboratory
