- no discussion or consultation required meaning time is used effectively and problems are dealt with quickly

- communication is poor and limited to top - to - bottom, a one way system meaning its hard to create relationships
persuasive management style
one where the manager attempts to ‘sell’ the decisions made

- managers can gain trust and support through their persuasion

consultative management style
where the manager consults employees before making decisions

- employees have ownership of the way in which the business is run, thus increasing their levels of motivation and commitment

- time taken to consult all the relevant employees can slow the entire work process
participative management style
one where the manager unites with staff to make decisions together
advantage of participative management styles
- employer and employee relations are positive and there is reduced likelihood of industrial disputes

- internal conflict may arise with so many views and opinions being shared
laissez faire management style
one where employees assume total responsibility for, and control of, workplace operations

- sense of ownership by employees meaning it promotes outstanding results from them
