Emergency Preparedness / BSO establishes protocols to secure Broward County infrastructure:
- Critical Infrastructure
- Airport / Seaport
- Communication Sites
- Major Transportation Routes
- BC Courthouse, Governmental Center, other public buildings
- Increased patrol of soft targets (hotels, apartments, & malls); where large numbers of people gather.
Declaration of state of emergency by County Administrator:

Gives the Sheriff authority to raise the power of the county and be conservator of the peace:

Allows the Sheriff to protect vital war industries:

Permits the Sheriff to close public facilities upon the threat of violence:

Permits the Sheriff to declare a state of emergency in unincorporated areas, preserve public peace, and suppress riots:

Special Event Planning:
Every special event will require a specific plan to be developed. i.e. parades, entertainment, sporting events, highway construction, picketing, etc…
After-Action Report is required at conclusion of the special event.
Response to Correctional / Detention Facility:
- Law enforcement / Fire Rescue Ops will be in coordination with detention facility’s ops plans.
- Introduction of weapons into a BSO detention facility will be in accordance with SPM chapter 6.
Field Force Plan:
Developed to marshal and coordinate deputies in the field to respond to local emergencies and law enforcement intensive situations.
