What is the digestive system?
The organ system running from the mouth to the anus where food is digested
A muscular tube
What is the digestive system responsible for?
Changing insoluble molecules into soluble molecules
Only then can soluble molecules be absorbed into the blood
What does the digestive system include? (5 things)
Glans- such as the pancreas and salivary glands which produce digestive juices
The stomach and small intestines- where digestion takes place
The liver- produces bile
The small intestines- where the absorption of soluble food occurs
The large intestine- where water is absorbed from the undigested food, producing faeces
Where is soluble food absorbed?
The small intestine
What is an insoluble molecule?
A molecule that will not dissolve in a particular solvent (such as water)
