1.3 Specialised Cells Flashcards
If a cell has many ribosomes what is it making a lot of?
Protein
e.g. gland cells- produce enzymes
If a cells has many mitochondria what must it need?
A lot of energy.
e.g. a muscle cell or a sperm cell
An example of a cell that can move and why
A sperm cell- has a tail
What do the special structure of Receptor Cells enable them to do?
Detect stimuli
e.g. the cone cells in the eye are light sensitive
What are neurons specialised to do?
To carry impulses from receptors to the CNS
What will plant cells with many chloroplasts be doing?
Photosynthesising
e.g. mesophyll cells of a leaf
What do root hair cells do?
Increase the surface area of the root so that it can absorb water and minerals ions efficiently
Why do muscle cells need a lot of mitochondria?
Mitochondria release energy which muscles need for movement
