COGNITIVE INTERVIEW: what are the 4 techniques used (and explain each)
MCRC- Mental realisation of original context (prompt questions used to cue other memories) change in order (avoid schema) recall everything (piece together bigger picture with smaller info and cue bigger memories) change in perspective (avoid schema)
A strength and limitation of the cognitive interview
Strength- Meta analysis of 53 studies that found a 34 % increase in correct information recalled during the cognitive interview in comparison to the standard police interview.
Limitation- Köhnken- 61% of this info was a false positive
DEFINITIONS OF ABNORMALITY- what are the three definitions?
Deviation from Social Norms (DSN), Statistical Infrequency and Failure to function adequately.
Define deviation from social norms.
Displaying behaviour that goes against the expected behaviour/norms of a certain society.
Define statistical infrequency.
Thoughts or Behaviour that are numerically uncommon, usually outside of the statistical quartile of the mean displayed within the bell curve.
Define Failure to function adequately.
Incapability to cope in every day life.
