16 – ATP synthesis & transport Flashcards
ATP synthase Harness … to…
Harness proton-motive force to make ATP
how does complex V work?
Orange part – rigid/doesn’t turn/can be deformed
Green part – turns
hwo does green part turn?
Turns by Brownian motion
explain the orange part
it has 2 channels-protons can only go half way & displace side chain from arginine 210 to the start of the second channel&then the proton can leave
how does the turning generates ATP?
Rotation of 𝛾 subunit – pushes β subunit through 3 state cycle
-𝛾 subunit = asymmetrical & when it turns - it deforms the β subunit
-ADP can enters
-ATP formed
-ADP held -not yet forced to form ATP
turns again:
-ADP held
-ATP leave
-ATP formed
ATP escape mitochondrial matrix via
ATP/ADP antiporter
how does ATP/ADP antiporter work?
exchange transporter powered by difference of concentration of 2 things on each side - when making ATP, ADP decreases inside
