1.53 Quality Control And Assurance Flashcards
What is Quality Assurance (QA)?
A system that checks materials, equipment, staff, and product quality throughout its entire life cycle.
What is Quality Control?
The aspect of QA that involves inspection (tolerances) and testing during/ after production.
What is a tolerance?
Tolerance is the measurements + (greater than) or - (smaller than) of a part or component’s dimension that is acceptable and still able to function.
What is a JIG used for?
A jig is used to ensure holes are aligned
for drilling in each product within a batch.
What is a fixture used for?
A fixture allows a manufacturer to repeatedly test a product. (clamps)
Why use ICT in Quality control and Quality assurance?
- 100% quality is very hard to guarantee.
- CMMs (coordinate-measuring machines) are used to test for dimensions, surface finish, the position of drill holes, etc.
- Used to predict the number of failures.
What are templates used for?
The original outline of the shape of the product which is used to mark or cut all others made accurately by CNC (e.g. Guitar outline).
What is Total Quality Management/ Control (TQM/ TQC)?
Applies QA at every stage of production as it aims for continuous improvement at every stage.
What are the quality standards?
- BS (Kitemark) (UK)
- EN or CE (European standards)
- ISO 9000 (international standards)
What are quality standards?
Marks of quality that will validate products.
What is Kaizan?
Japanese theory seeks perfection in production through small improvements.
