Describe semi-conservative DNA replication

A

1) DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between complementary base pairs between strands, unwinding the double helix.

2) Each separated strand acts as a template

3) Free DNA nucleotides are attracted to exposed complementary bases on template strands. Adenine to thymine and guanine cytosine.

4) DNA polymerase joins adjacent nucleotides through a condensation reaction forming phosphodiester bonds

5) Each DNA molecule has one original strand and a newly synthesised strand
