- Concerns malicious use of computers.
- Created to ensure computer hacking covered by law

- Brought in to protect people’s property online
- Covers work like logos, music recordings, writing
Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000
- Covers investigation and surveillance by public bodies
- Enforces ISP and mobile phone companies to give up info upon request from an authorised authority.
- Ensures ISP networks have sufficient hardware installed to facilitate surveillance
Why is regulation of investigatory powers act controversial?
The power extends to small agencies like local councils.
Some people feel the act is an invasion of privacy, and is often improperly used.
