15: Warning Systems Flashcards
Windshear Warning (Airplane in Windshear)
When does detection begin and when is it enabled?
*Detection Begins at rotation
*Enabled below 1500 feet RA
WINDSHEAR AHEAD- enabled when?
During T/O below 1200 feet RA
GO AROUND, WINDSHEAR AHEAD- when is it enabled and what does it indicate?
Enabled during App below 1200 feet RA and indicates windshear within 1.5 miles ahead
MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY- when is it enabled and what does it indicate?
Enabled during T/O and App below 1200 feet and indicates windshear within 3 miles ahead
WX Radar begins scanning when?
- thrust levers set for T/O, even if engine is off or IRS not aligned
- in flight below 2300 feet RA
New predictive windshear caution alerts are inhibited when?
Between 80 kt and 400 feet RA
New predictive warning alerts are inhibited when?
Between 100 kt and 50 feet RA
EGPWS: Terrain display colours and altitudes
Green: -2000’ to +250’
Yellow: -500 to +2000’
Red: +2000’ or above
Smart 500 Radio Altitude Callout
MAX:
# an app is not selected in the FMC
# Glideslope Cancel is selected
# excessive ILS or FMC flightpath and glidepath deviation
NG:
# an app other than ILS is used
# Glideslope Cancel is selected
# excessive ILS flightpath and glidepath deviation
Dependent on the lack of G/S or G/P (MAX)
Dependent on the lack of G/S (NG)
TCAS Inhibits:
1) Increase Descend RA
2) Descend RA
3) RA
4) What is displayed on the ND below 1000`
5) TCAS Voice
1) Approximately 1500ft RA
2) Approximately 1100ft RA
3) Approximately 1000ft RA
4) TA ONLY
5) Approximately 500ft RA
MAINT/PSEU lights. Diff between MAX and NG
NG: PSEU inhibited from thrust lever set for T/O until 30s
after landing.
an overwing exit flight lock fails to disengage when
commanded.
MAX: Inhibited from first engine start until 30s after landing
On-ground overrun warning, when active?
3 s after touchdown until below 20kt or within 1000 feet of the end of the runway
In-air overrun warning, when active?
from 500 feet above TDZE until touchdown
Takeoff config
activates on the ground as the throttles are advanced if the airplane is not configured correctly for takeoff
• trailing edge flaps are not in the flaps 1 through 25 takeoff range, or
• trailing edge flaps are in a skew or asymmetry condition, or have uncommanded motion, or
• leading edge devices are not configured for takeoff or have uncommanded motion, or
• speed brake lever is not in the DOWN position, or
• ground spoiler control module valve is open providing pressurized hydraulic fluid to the ground spoiler PCUs, or
• parking brake is set,
or1B012 - 1B074, 1J926 - 1J932
• overwing door not secure, or
• stabilizer trim not set in the takeoff range
Windshear Caution, how does it look or sound like? When is a new one inhibited?
Aural “MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY”
Amber Windshear on ND
Between 80 kt and 400 feet RA
Predictive windshear warning during takeoff roll, how does it look or sound like? When is a new one inhibited?
Aural “WINDSHEAR AHEAD, WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
Red WINDSHEAR on ND
Between 100 kt and 50 feet RA
Predictive windshear warning during approach, how does it look or sound like?
Aural “GO–AROUND, WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
Red WINDSHEAR on ND
Windshear Warning (Airplane in Windshear), how does it look or sound like?
two–tone siren followed by “WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR”) also WINDSHEAR on PFD
or
unacceptable flight path deviations.
Unacceptable flight path deviations are recognized as uncontrolled changes from normal steady state flight conditions below 1000 feet AGL, in excess of any of the following:
* 15 knots indicated airspeed
* 500 fpm vertical speed
* 5° pitch attitude
* 1 dot displacement from the glideslope
* unusual thrust lever position for a significant period of time
IAN Autopilot Alert
Both visual and aural alerts are provided if the autopilot is engaged below 100 feet RA with either FAC or G/P engaged. AUTOPILOT, AUTOPILOT is announced over the cabin speaker, and an amber AUTOPILOT flashes over the attitude display
GPWS Caution- what is the maneuver?
Correct the flight path, airplane configuration, or airspeed
