- Go to school/ get an education.
- Exercise/ participate in school.
- Earn an income.
- Go to work/work productively/ change jobs.
- Spend time with friends/ enjoy ourselves socially.
- Work towards purpose in life.
Optimal health and wellbeing – increases capacity to go to school – gain education – get a job – work towards meaning and purpose in life
Nationally
Nationally:
- Higher average income
- Reduced healthcare and associated caring costs.
- Greater productivity (more goods/services produced).
- Improved life expectancy and other health outcomes.
- Less strain on health system (shorter waiting lists for elective surgery).
Optimal health and Wellbeing – more people well enough to work – increases productivity – greater tax revenue – increased economy of the country or money could be used to provide more resources for country (i.e. school)
Optimal health and wellbeing – people are well and don’t require health care – Decreases the strain on the healthcare system – shorter waiting lists for others – improvements in country’s life expectancy.
Globally
Globally:
- Optimal health and wellbeing can reduce the risk of infectious diseases spreading between countries
- Infectious/communicable diseases = diseases that are passed from person to person with either direct or indirect contact.
- Pandemic = when disease spreads across large geographical regions and affect a high population in a short time
Optimal Health and wellbeing means more people can work, earn income + contribute to their country’s economy, assisting in reducing poverty worldwide
Optimal health and wellbeing means people can work. Increases tax revenue for government > spent on infrastructure EG wharfs > promotes global trade
Good health and wellbeing is essential for countries to buy/sell goods with other countries – promotes global trade
Optimal health and wellbeing means people are not sick with communicable disease. This reduces people travelling to various countries transmitting diseases. Reducing a global pandemic.
