Today I am going to talk about a famous person who i had chance to meet in my country. He is Professor Ngo Bao Chau.
I first heard about Ngo Bao Chau on the news 6 years ago when he received the Fields Medal, which is often described as the Nobel Prize for mathematician [mæθəmə’tɪʃən]. He was also granted the title of professor in Vietnam, becoming the youngest professor in our country.
I had chance to meet him in real life one year later after he received the Fields prize. At that time, he had a conference in Hanoi to talk about the future of mathematic. I attended the conference although I was studying in physics field. I asked him a lot of questions such as how a famous scientist like him can contribute to the development of science in our country. What young scientists need to do to improve their research.
I remember in the conference, Ngo Bao Chau said that he had been studying maths for following his passion but not for a desire to achievement. During the time studying the Fundamental Lemma, he stuck and almost failed to solve such a complex problem. Despite the difficulties, he did not choose to give up so finally he got over them. His personality has been an inspiration for me to work harder for my dream.
