1.5 Flashcards
1
Q
what are hazard profiles?
A
- techniques used to try to understand the physical characteristics of tectonic hazards
- can be used to analyse and assess the same hazards which take place in contrasting locations or at different times
- based on criteria such as frequency, duration and speed of onset
2
Q
what are some advantages of hazard profiles?
A
- compares the physical processes that all hazards share
- helps decision makers identify and rank hazards that should be given most attention to
- allows for specific management to be considered based on different types of hazards
- good for comparing the same hazard in different countries
3
Q
what are some disadvantages of hazard profiles?
A
- reliability when comparing different events is limited- eg comparing earthquakes to volcanoes
- some information is not displayed on hazard profiles eg human factors
