15 Flashcards
Explain the pinching grip.
Pinching involves compressing an object between the thumb and index finger or adjacent fingers, used in actions like holding a coin or snapping fingers.
What is the rest position of the hand, and when is it typically used?
The rest position is assumed by an inactive hand, often used to immobilize the wrist and hand in a cast to stabilize a fracture.
What are the main components of the palmar fascia?
The palmar fascia is continuous with the antebrachial fascia and dorsum of the hand fascia, thin over the thenar and hypothenar eminences, and serves as the palmar fascia.
What structures does the palmar aponeurosis cover and connect with?
The palmar aponeurosis, a strong part of the deep fascia, covers the soft tissues of the palm and overlays the long flexor tendons. It connects proximally with the flexor retinaculum and palmaris longus tendon (PLT), forming digital bands that attach to the proximal phalanges.
What are the fibrous digital sheaths, and what do they enclose?
The fibrous digital sheaths are ligamentous tubes that enclose synovial sheaths, the superficial and deep flexor tendons, and the flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon along the palmar aspect of the fingers.
