15 & 16 - Brains & Computing Flashcards
Do neuroscientists look at each individual neurons impact?
No, ignore many details of each neuron, and typically builds simulation of neural network
What is the role of modelling/simulation in science?
If we can build it, means we can understand it well.
Typically, strips away irrelevant details, and makes it more familiar
What suggests the brain uses a connectionist/neural network model?
Each neuron cannot do much by itself.
Each synapsing cell is excitatory or inhibitory, and it’s the temporal and spatial summation that depends if threshold is reached.
How is the brain represented in a simplified brain model?
Represent the ability of neurons to make the next one fire, ignoring details of neurotransmitters or membrane potential
