What is a database?
A
A collection of data that is (often) stored in an area where more than one user can access it. It is also usually organised (not always digital)

What might a database be used for?
A
- Medical records
- TV program listings
- Search engines website data
- Telephone directories
- Online shops
- School pupils names, classes etc
- A library to keep track of where a book is and who has borrowed one

Advantages of a database…
A
- Data can be found quickly
- Large amounts of data can be sorted and changed, alphabetically etc
- Data can be filtered or searched through to find what is required
- Data can easily be shared over the internet
- A backup of all the data can be made easily
