A collection of data that is (often) stored in an area where more than one user can access it. It is also usually organised (not always digital)

A
  • Medical records
  • TV program listings
  • Search engines website data
  • Telephone directories
  • Online shops
  • School pupils names, classes etc
  • A library to keep track of where a book is and who has borrowed one

Advantages of a database…

  • Data can be found quickly
  • Large amounts of data can be sorted and changed, alphabetically etc
  • Data can be filtered or searched through to find what is required
  • Data can easily be shared over the internet
  • A backup of all the data can be made easily
