The internet (definition and Purpose)
The internet is a vast and worldwide network that connects computers from all over the world. Through the internet, people share and communicate with each other from different parts of the world.
Copper Cable Characteristics
(speed, range, storage capacity)
Speed- A lower bandwidth than fibre optic cables so a slower connection (25-300 megabytes)
Range- Up to 100m
Storage capacity- Carries less information than a fibre optic cable
Optical Fibre Characteristics
(Speed, Range, Storage capacity)
Speed- Higher bandwidth than copper cables so a faster connection (up to 10 terabytes per second)
Range- Up to 100km
Storage capacity- Can carry more information than copper cables
Satellite Characteristics
(Speed, Range, Storage Capacity)
Speed- A very low bandwidth with slower connection than cable (12-35 megabytes per second)
Range- Up to 22,300 miles
Storage capacity- Up to 260 gigabytes
Microwave Characteristics
Speed- 300mb to 1gb
Range- 30-40 miles
Storage capacity- Up to 6 gigabytes
Mobile Data Network Characteristics
Speed- up to 200mb per second
