14- Simple models of matter Flashcards
Boyle’s law?
Pressure, p is inversely proportional to volume, V so that pV is a constant at a constant temp.
Ideal gas?
One in which the molecules dont interact at all, and are so tiny that they occupy negligible volume.
Charle’s law?
For every degree rise in temp, the increase in volume is 3.66*10^-3 the volume of the sample at 0 degrees.
Pressure law?
If volume is constant, pressure follows same same form as volume in Charles’ law.
Ideal gas equation?
pV=nRT
What happens to real gasses at low temp?
Molecules cool and sample contract and become close enough to interact.
Kinetic model of gasses assumption?
Assume ideal gas. Assume all collisions are completely elastic.
Kinetic model?
pV= 1/3 *Nm c^2 (rms)
Why do real gases deviate from ideal gasses?
Van der waal forces and having dimensions.
Energy of molecule?
3/2 *kT
Distance travlled by molecule making N steps on average?
N^0.5
First law of thermodynamics?
ΔU = W +Q
