1.4 Flashcards
Brain Stem
Lower part of the brain that connects to the spinal cord, responsible for vital automatic bodily functions like breathing, heart rate, consciousness, and basic arousal and levels.
Reticular Activating System
A network of neurons in the brain stem that regulates sleep wake cycles, arousal , and attention
Cerebellum
Portion of the brain in the back of the head between the cerebrum and the brain stem, controls balance and other motor functions
Cerebral Cortex
Outer layer of the brain responsible for sensation, movement, thinking, emotions , consciousness, and language
Occipital Lobe
The part of the brain that processes visual information
Temporal Lobe
Region of the brain that process sensory information, including auditory and visual stimuli
Parietal Lobe
A paper of the brain that plays a key role in processing sensory information, visual processing, and coordinating movement
Soma sensory
A complex system that sends information from the body to the brain about the surrounding environment
Frontal Lobe
The largest love in the human brain and is located at the front of the brain, directly behind the forehead
Motor Cortex
A part of the brains frontal lobe that control voluntary movement
Split Brain Cortex
A brain where the corpus callosum, the connection between the two cerebral cortices, has been severed
Corpus callosum
A thick bundle of nerve fibers that connects the two hemispheres of the brain, allowing them to allowing, them to communicate and coordinate their functions
Brocas area
A region in the brain that plays a key role in language production and comprehension
Wernickes Area
A part of the brain that is responsible for the speech comprehension and production
Apashia
Language disorder that affects a persons ability to understand and express language
Brain Plasticity
The ability of the nervous system to change its activity in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli by reorganizing its structure or functions
EGG
Multidimensional nature of the human psyche and how the various parts of the one’s consciousness relate to to each other
FMRI
Neuroimaging technique that measures brain activity by tracking changes in blood flow
Case study
A qualitative research method that involves a detailed examination of a person, group , group, or event to understand a phenomenon in a real world setting
Lesionsing
A procedure that involved damaging a targeted area of the brain or nerves to disrupt neural networks or pain signals
