Q

what is sonar?

A

Sound Navigation and Ranging, sound waves to calculate distance to an object. If ocean is shallow, sound waves return quickly, deep it takes longer, using speed of sound they calculate depth.

Q

what are satellites?

A

uses radar to compute distance to ocean’s surface, distance calculated using radar speed and time it takes for signal to be reflected back
