13B - Rate Laws Flashcards
1
Q
Def: general form of rate law?
What are the components?
A
rate = k[a]^m * [b]^n
[ ] are concentrations.
m and n are orders.
k is rate constant
1
Q
Theory: How are order caclualted?
A
Experimentally, not from BCE.
2
Q
Def: what is overall order.
A
order added (m + n….)
3
Q
Theory: how can rate law be determined from data?
A
- Write generic
- Find trials where one concentration is the same adn find one order
- Contine until last order, which can be determined from any order
- Find k using any trials, and units
4
Q
Theory: what are k units dependent on?
A
Overall rxn order.
