Air carrier Cert vs Operating certificate
ACC: Interstate, foreign, overseas transportation, or mail
Op Cert: Intrastate (out of state) transportation
Pap = FULL ON DEMAND 135 Operator
Deviation from ATC clearance allowed when?
What must be done under 135?
For emergency or w/ amended clearance
Deviations require reports to FAA w/in 10 days
No longer on request (135.19)
How does 135 relate to part 91?
Can amend, negate, provide alternatives to 91
91 Can be used as compliance standard for 135
91 can be basis for a list of additional regs
What does 135 require the pilot to report?
Report to ground stations:
Potentially hazardous wx or irregularity in navaids
(135.67)
If a hazardous condition occurs at a landing site what must you do under 135?
Shut down operations until clear or
reasonably expected to be clear by arrival
Continuation considered an emergency situation per 135.19
(135.69)
What documents must be in acft per 135.83?
Checklists (now mandatory)
Pertinent aeronautical charts
What briefing items are required by 135.117?
Smoking Seatbelts Exits Survival equipment Fire extinguishers PFDs/ditching procedures for overwater
How is inoperative equipment handled per 135.179?
Can't take off w/ inop equipment unless: MEL exists for acft FAA approved MEL through issued OPSPECs Acft operated under conditions/limitations of MEL or Special Flight Permit
What is the minimum altitude and visibility from 135.203 and 135.205?
Altitude: 300’ AGL over congested area
Viz: 1/2 mi Day | 1 mi Night
Class G <1200’ AGL or
Lat boundaries of B, C, D, E (affect SFVR?)
What wx source must be used under 135.213?
NWS, source approved by NWS, source approved by FAA
If not available under VFR: Pilot can do own observations
OPSPECs also specify NWS
What items must be reported in a Service Difficulty Report? 135.415
(10)
Fires in flight False Fire in flight Exhaust sys causes dmg to acft in flight Smoke/vapor/fumes Flameout Eng shutdown: ext dmg or FOD occurs Fuel Leakage in flight Acft structure reqs major repair Cracks, deformation, corrosion out of limits Malfunctions causing EPs other than eng shutdown
What does the collective anticipator do?
Anticipates fuel req based on collective movement
Prevents static droop of NR
What systems are powered by DCT BATT?
Dome lights
Com 1
Xsponder
ICS
What are the temp ranges for the oil cooler bypass valve?
Full bypass below 74C
Full flow to cooler above 86C
What are the functions of the FADEC?
N1 governing Idle and Flight Limitations calculations Engine power check Cycle Counting Failure Detection
What are the inputs into the FADEC?
TO, T1, N1, P3, T4, NF, TQ, Collective anticipator, Yaw anticipator, NR trim encoding wheel
Fuel Flow Talk Through (current Version 12/13)
Tank > Boost Pump > Airframe Fuel Filter > Emergency Shutoff > Low P Pump (10 BAR) > Fuel/oil exchanger/filter > Fuel Filter > High P Pump (40 Bar) > Metering Valve > Shut off Solonoid > Pressurizing Valve > 3 way electro start valve > Injectors (X2) > Injection wheel
Company/TOPs flight parameters
30 deg Bank 10 deg Pitch 2,000 FPM descent 300' AGL (500 Tops) 120 kts in descent
When is a continuous tone played over the ICS?
Low Rotor Horn <360 RPM
Exceeding max takeoff limit after 1.5 sec delay
Immediately after exceeding a transient limit
Immediately when trans limit will be exceeded
What is the procedure for failure of both VEMD screens?
What could cause this?
1.Limit power to enough to establish level flight w/
Speed of 100 kts -2/1000’
Carry out a no hover landing
2. Can be caused by smoke/fumes procedure
Loss of an engine parameter on the VEMD: Rule for remembering which procedure to apply
NG loss = limit T4 810
TQ loss = follow NG table
Both loss = do both
Loss of NF/NR:
NF Fail: TQ abv 0 and read NR
NR Fail: TQ abv 10% (needles split otherwise can’t see NR rise)
