- Unauthorised access to computer files such as a program or data

The Data Protection Act is designed to control the way in which information is:
Collection, Stored, Processed, Destroyed
Data subject is the person who has information stored about them
Data controller is the organisation who store’s information

-Processed for limited purposes
-Adequate, relevant and not excessive
-Accurate and up to date
-Not kept for longer than is necessary
-Processed in line with Data Subject rights
- Not transferred to other countries without protection

8 Principles
-Public authorities must give people the right to access information they hold on record
-Like the DPA 1988, there are a number of exceptions as to what can be released
- Organisations must consider carefully what information they keep on record
- Information must be provided if requested and applicants do not need to give a reason for the request
