12: Test Selection and Administration Flashcards
construct validity
the ability of a test to represent the underlying construct (does the test actually measure what it was designed to measured)
face validity
the appearance to the athlete and other observers that the test measures what it was supposed to measure
content validity
the assessment by experts that the testing covers all relevant subtopics or component abilities in all appropriate proportions
criterion-referenced validity
the extent to which test scores are associated with some other measure of the same ability (includes 3 sub-types: concurrent, convergent, predictive)
discriminant validity
the ability of a test to distinguish between two different constructs
What components are important in choosing a valid test for an athlete?
- metabolic energy system
- biomechanical movement pattern
- experience and training status
- age and sex
- environmental factors/conditions
how long should athletes from cool climates get to acclimate to warm temperatures?
at least one week
what is the proper sequence of tests to require minimal recovery time between tests?
- nonfatiguing measures (height, weight, flexibility, skinfold, vertical jump)
- agility tests (T-test, pro agility test)
- max power and strength (1RM power clean and squat)
- sprint tests
- local muscular endurance (push-up test)
- fatiguing anaerobic capacity (300 yd shuttle)
- aerobic capacity test (1.5 mile run)
How can athletes be prepared for testing?
- pretest practice 1-3 days before test
- clear instructions
- demonstration
- equal motivation
How much rest time is needed for sub-max and near-max tests?
sub-max: 2 min
near max: 3 min
