England- 53.0 million Wales- 3.1 million Scotland-5.3 million Northern Ireland- 1.8 million Higher population density towards south east, more density change up north towards Scotland.

A
For example- Scunthorpe/Redcar
- Used to be the an industrial town for iron/steel but underwent 90% decline
- little government investment to improve the area
- not many businesses left and an older population as younger people migrate to cities for better job prospects.

A
Deindustrialisation-collapse of ship building in Belfast+sectarian violence
Also, decline in Scotland- due to the loss of ship building industry leaving brownfield sites.

- 1960s baby boom
- 1960s: Caribbean migration, adding workers
- 2000s: growth in the tertiary/quaternary sector for e.g. Slough trading estate, O2, BMW, Vodafone and consequent migration from Eastern Europe.
- 2010s: high migrant fertility rates

- Grammar school system = desirable for families.
- Windsor castle and historical legacy attracts tourists= more jobs
- Crossrail being built= better connectivity for workers
- a high population of migrant groups
