1.2 - Network Topologies Flashcards
What is a Star network? Describe this process.
A star network is network that uses a “hub and spoke.” Using a switch ethernet (as the center) and connected devices (spoke(s)) in a network. It is used in most large and small networks, popular choice.
What is a ring network? Describe this process and where is it commonly used in?
A ring network is devices connected to each other with data being sent in a closed loop (circle). This is most commonly used over a Metro Area Networks and Wide Area Networks.
What is a bus network? Describe this process.
A bus network is a network that operated on coaxial, a single cable that had all devices connected on this “backbone.” Thus, having no open connections.
What is a mesh network? Describe this process.
A mesh network is a network that is meshed with other networks/sites (being fully connected) to each other, having redundancy. Its fully connected but particularly connected.
What is a hybrid network? Give an example.
A hybrid network a combination of one or more physical network topologies. Example: ring + star network. Star network for the switches and a ring topology for the routers.
