1.2 gas exchange and respiration Flashcards
pages 13 - 17
what is inhaled air contained of?
79 % nitrogen
21% oxygen
0.04% carbon dioxide
very little water vapour
what is exhaled air contained of?
79% nitrogen
17% oxygen
4% carbon dioxide
a lot water vapour
what do we produce when we bur fuel with the help of oxygen? and what is this process called?
energy, water vapour and carbon dioxide. this is called cellular respiration.
what do we use energy for?
movement
keeping body temperature constant
replacing and adding cells
cellular respiration:
glucose + oxygen = water vapour + carbon dioxide + energy
where are the carbon dioxide and water produced during respiration carried back to , by what and where?
carried back to the lungs via the bloosatream in the alveoli
what is diffusion?
the movemnt of particles from an area of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration, until the concentrations in both areas are equal . no energy needed.
what are lung capillaries?
tiny blood vessels that surround the aleveoli
what is cellular respiration?
the proccess by which your cells make energy, carbon dioxide and water vapour from glucose, with the help of oxygen.
what is osmosis
the diffusion of water molecules through a partially permeable membrane
