What liver disease do cats NOT get?
Cirrhosis
Which liver disease are cats especially susceptible to?
Lipidosis
Which enzyme do cats not have?
Steroid-induced ALP
What are clinical signs like in cats in liver disease?
Non-specific - vomiting, pyrexia, hepatomegaly (50%), anorexia, weight loss
What is “triaditis” in cats?
Liver and pancreas and IBD
What are the clinical signs like in hepatic lipidosis?
Comatose, encephalopathy
Why is it hard to tell FIP from lymphocytic cholangitis?
Both cause high-protein ascites
What should you do as soon as you are certain of primary liver disease?
BIOPSY ASAP, but check platelets and coagulation first
Which kind of lvier biopsies are more and less dangerous?
Wedge biopsy less dangerous, US-guided trucut more dangerous
Why is laparotomy for liver biopsy better?
Can deal with haemorrhage
What should you do before a liver biopsy?
Pre-treat with vitamin K for 12-24 hours
Where do you take an emergency liver FNA?
Blind on LHS
In which dogs are raised liver enzymes very common?
Older, in chronic hepatitis or pancreatitis
Why do you not put an old dog onto a hepatic diet?
Old dogs need protein
Causes of secondary hepatopathy?
CHF, anaemia, toxaemia or sepsis (esp dental), pancreatitis, steroids, diabetes, hyper-lipidaemia
