Ddx acute diarrhoea?
Dietary indiscretion, infection, toxins, FB, motility disorder, pancreatitis, hepatitis, volvulus, intus, GDV, acute haemorrhagic diarrhoea syndrome
When can you treat diarrhoea symptomatically?
Replace electrolytes, starve 24 hours, bland diet, check parasite control
What are some viral causes of diarrhoea?
CPV2, CDV, FPL, FeLV, FIV, coronavirus, rotavirus, torovirus
Which parasites can cause enterocolitis?
Whipworms (Trichuris)
What happens if you treat Salmonella with antibiotics?
Chronic carrier state
When is the only time you treat Salmonella?
If toxaemic
What are some protozoa than can cause diarrhoea?
Giardia, crypto, coccidia
Which drugs are preferred as an anti-diarrhoel?
Opiates
How soon should you feed during diarrhoea?
As soon as possible, even during pancreatitis
Why must you feed something bland during diarrhoea?
Strong risk of getting an allergy due to gut wall breakdown
How do you treat dirrhoea in kittens?
Carefully e.g. fluids
What can be the cause of diarrhoea in kittens?
Often multiple parasites, or potential for severe viral enteritis e.g. panleucopenia, coronavirus
