11.3 - Biomes Change Naturally Flashcards
1
Q
Describe a negative feedback loop
A
A negative Feedback loop describes a situation in which one change in direction (warming)
triggers another condition that reverses the direction of the change (cooling).
2
Q
Describe a positive feedback loop
A
A positive Feedback loop describes a situation that perpetuates itself. In this example, cooling
causes a new condition (more ice) which causes more cooling.
3
Q
Describe paleoclimatology
A
Paleoclimatology is the study of past climates.
4
Q
What types of evidence do scientists use to find out about past climates?
A
Glacial ice, pollen in amber or lake sediment and tree rings.
5
Q
What are the causes of natural climate change?
A
- Earth’s tilt
- Earth’s orbit
- continental drift
- Weathering
- Catastrophic events
- Feedback
- Mass extinction events
