1.12 - The role of Christ in salvation - end of Unit 1 Flashcards
Whilst many non-Christians wonder why Jesus is so special, they do accept what?
Much of His teaching as being a way of living a good life. But they find it hard to understand the significance of His death, resurrection and ascension.
Romans 6:23
‘For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’
Christians believe that Jesus’ death makes up for what?
The original sin committed by Adam and Eve and so He can bring people back to God.
When Jesus was crucified, the crowds shouted for Him to save Himself. If He was the Son of God, he should get down from the cross. And Jesus was fully capable of this. But He didn’t. What does this show?
It shows Jesus’ understanding of His mission. His love for humans as he laid down His life willingly for us. He knew His death was necessary to restore the relationship between man and God and give all the opportunity for Salvation.
What is so significant about His resurrection?
After Jesus took all humanities sin to Hell, he rose from the dead. He conquered the grave. This shows His power over death and evil and that good will always prevail.
1 Corinthians 15:21-22
For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
The fact that Jesus rose from the dead shows what?
That God accepted Jesus’ sacrifice as atonement which means Jesus restored the relationship between man and God.
What does atonement do?
It removes the effects of sin and allows people to restore their relationship with God.
1 John 2:1-2
But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
