11.19 Intergrated Modular Avionics Flashcards
What does LRU stand for
Line Replaceable Unit
What does LRM stand for
Line Replaceable Module
What is the purpose of LRUs
They deal with data processing and storage
What does IMA stand for
Integrated Modular Avionics
What are IMA LRM called
(CPIOMs) Core Processing Input/output modules or (IOMs) Input Output modules
What enables communication between different systems on the aircraft. What are the CPIOMs connected to
They are connected via full duplex cables to the Aircraft Data Communications Network (ADCN)
What is AFDX
Avionics Full Duplex switched Ethernet
The connection between CPIOMs via duplex cables
What are the main benefits of IMA
- They are off the shelf (COTS) components
- The same type of LRMs are interchangeable which reduces parts and maintenance costs
- Each LRM can be configured to provide services for more than one system application
How many types of CPIOM are there
7 ranging from A-G
Name the different types of CPIOM
CPIOM-A : Pneumatic and optional Air con CPIOM-B : Air conditioning CPIOM-C : Cockpit and flight controls CPIOM-D : Data link CPIOM-E : Energy CPIOM-F : Fuel CPIOM-G : Landing Gear
What is a CPIOM made up from
HARDWARE - A power supply board connected to 28v DC power
- 2 input output boards - A CPU board ( Allows the CPIOM to communicate via AFDX with the ADCN
SOFTWARE - CPIOM core software
- CPIOM config table software - Avionics application database
What is different with IOMs over CIOMs
IOM acts as an Interface between conventional LRUs, which communicate with non AFDX data, to the ACDN which communicates with AFDX data
There is only 1 type of IOM (type A) they don’t host system applications
How is a IOM constructed
HARDWARE - A power supply board connected to 28v DC
- Two input output boards - A CPU board
SOFTWARE - IOM-A operational program software
- IOM-A configuration table software
