1.1.10 Different methods of user training Flashcards
can you take advantage of an IT system without training?
no, it is impossible to take full advantage without proper training. User training is extremely important. All staff must be familiar with the new system because if not they can make mistakes
what are the different methods of delivering user training?
self instruction, formal classes, online training
what variables have to be taken into consideration when thinking about which method of user training to implement?
number of students, availability of the instructor, size of the business, training budget
What is self instruction/self study?
allows users to learn from their own time until they achieve mastery of the subject. printed manuals, books, e-books, tutorial videos, online exercises can be used.
advantages of self study?
there is no tuition free. the user can study whenever they want.
disadvantages of self study?
lack of guidance or teacher support, final result depends on motivation of the user and ability to learn on their own
What are formal classes?
Attending a class with students and instructors.
Advantages of formal classes?
offers interactive setting, promotes open and free discussion between students and teacher. allowing students to exchange ideas. direct interaction with expert. ideas are exchanged easily without communication barriers
disadvantages formal classes?
disadvantage shy members, obstruct ones ability to learn by allowing other self-assured students to dominate discussion environment
asynchronous learning (online learning) advantages?
allows participants to take high quality courses from anywhere in the world. accesible always. time efficiency and time management are some strengths. can be able to access at any time. promotes critical thinking and self direction
disadvantages of asynchronous learning (online learning)?
lack of the required infrastructure will exclude students from the online course. teachers and students must possess minimum level of IT skills to function effectively in online environment. greater responsibility on student and this can take a negative effect on dependent learners.
