11.1 Flashcards
Genotype
The genetic constitution of an individual organism.
Homozygous
Having two identical alleles for a particular gene.
Heterozygous
Having two different alleles for a particular gene.
Phenotype
The observable physical or biochemical characteristics of an organism, as determined by both genetic makeup and environmental influences.
Genotypic ratio
The ratio of different genotypes that can occur in offspring from a genetic cross.
Phenotypic ratio
The ratio of different phenotypes that can occur in offspring from a genetic cross.
Dominant vs recessive
Codominance
A genetic scenario in which both alleles in a heterozygote are fully expressed, resulting in a phenotype that is neither dominant nor recessive.
