1.1 The Nature Of God Flashcards
What is monotheism?
The belief in only one God.
What does it mean to be transcendent?
(God is) above and beyond everything else that exists on Earth.
What is omnibenevolence?
(God) being all-loving.

(God) having unlimited power and control over everything that happens.

What is omnipresence?
(God) being present at all times, even in spirit as He is not limited by a physical body.
What is the Doctrine of the Trinity?
The belief that there is one God who appears (has appeared) on Earth in three ways as the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. God as the Father is the creator, God as the Son is Earth’s saviour and God as the Holy Spirit is a spiritual power that guides, helps and inspires us.
What is the reason for the Nicene Creed?
It was created so that all Christians could share the same ideas about the Trinity. At some churches, it is recited as part of an affirmation of belief in the Trinity.
What are some different views about the Trinity?
Some denominations, e.g. Jehovah’s Witness, believe that the Son and the Holy Spirit are inferior to God.
What is an ecumenical symbol of faith?
Something that promotes unity between the different denominations in a faith, to ensure that they all hold the same key principles. E.g. a creed.
