Give me some general information on Reiters Syndrome

Also called reactive arthritis owing to its association with infection.
- Has a triad with urethritis, conjunctivitis and polyarthritis
- seen almost exclusively in males
- usually peripheral, self limiting

What is some clinical info on Reiters syndrome
A
− 18-40 years old, M:F / 50:1
− Asymmetric, painful effusions
− Knee, ankle, foot, shoulder, wrist, LS
− “Lovers heel” = pain at Achilles insertion
− Self limiting, 2-3 months
− 30% have distinctive skin lesions (keratoderma blennorrhagica)
− Multiple reoccurrence results in joint damage
− Complications: Urinary tract obstruction, iritis, corneal ulceration, aortitis, but rarely
fatal
− Labs: ESR elevated, 75% +HLA-B27, anemia, RF negative
