What are Norms
Things that are seen to be normal within society, the are unwritten rules and are culturally relative
What are Values
Societies shared belief around what is important, they are also culturally relative
What are Moral Codes, with an example
Basic values, rules and principles held by an individual, group or organisation for example the hippocratic oath
Define Deviance
Things that aren’t criminal and break the norms of society.
What are Formal Sanctions
Sanctions that are set up by a government official organisation and are given out if you’ve broken a written rule or law
What are Informal Sanctions
They are sanctions given by a member of society (parents)
Give a positive and negative formal sanction
P- Pay rise
N- Fines
Give a positive and negative informal sanction
P-Praise
N-Gossip
Which sanctions correlate to criminality and deviance

For a defendant to be convicted of a crime they must have these two elements. Name them and describe them
