Q
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)
A
branch of the peripheral nervous system
under involuntary control and works with the endocrine system to maintain homeostasis
2
Q
Sympathetic nervous system (SNS)
A
prepares the body for stress (i.e. increases heart rate and blood flow)
the nerves of the SNS originate in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae
3
Q
Parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS)
A
restores balance after stress has been induced (i.e. decreases heart rate and blood flow)
the nerves of the PSNS originate in the brain, the cervical vertebrae and the caudal vertebrae
