Q

Straight through & breakout procedure (5.14.1,2)

Straight Through?

A
  1. Continue straight through at pattern altitude and 200 KIAS
  2. At DER turn crosswind, clear for aircraft turning crosswind, pulling closed, established on inside downwind

Q

Straight through & breakout procedure (5.14.1,2)

Breakout?

A
  1. Add power to MAX while starting climbing turn away from the conflict
  2. Raise gear/flaps, confirm clean aircraft prior to 150 knots
  3. Level off at breakout altitude and fly toward VFR entry
  4. Clear of pattern groundtrack, descend and maneuver to arrive wings level at VFR entry at pattern altitude

Q

Go-around procedure (5.15)

Landing phase?

A
  1. Maintain landing attitude, do not over-rotate
  2. Raise gear once positive climb indication
  3. Clear the runway, offset if necessary, to avoid overflying aircraft
  4. Turn approximately 20 degrees away from runway, then turn parallel
  5. Accelerate to 140-200 knots, climb or descend to 500 feet above terrain until past DER

Q

ORM 3-2-1 and when it applies (5.18.2.1)

A

Applies to a Forced Landing (FL), actual engine out scenario

Will not descend below 2000 feet AGL unless they are:

On profile

Runway in sight

Position to safely Manuever to land

300 feet AGL final decision to continue or eject
200 feet AGL gear down and locked
100 feet AGL aircraft on centerline

Q

When/how to zoom/glide, initial actions (5.18.3)

A

Above 150 KIAS, initiate a zoom climb using 2G pullup to 20 degree NH

Zoom until 20 knots above glide speed (145) then lower the nose to maintain desired glide speed (.5G bunt over)

TCCC for any engine-related malfunction

Q

Distance calculations (5.18.3.3)

A

VFR map, NAVAIDs, GPS airfield waypoints to determine distance

DME method
½ DME + key
Half the distance to the field, plus 3000 feet (high key) or 1500 feet (low key) to determine necessary altitude to be on profile

Q

High key to landing (5.18.7.7-11)

A

If on profile at or prior to high key, lower the landing gear
Turn and use AOB as necessary towards low key
If using offset method use 20 degrees of bank (no-wind)
If using overhead method use 30 degrees of bank (no-wind)
High key 2500-3000 feet AGL, 120 knots, gear down, ⅓ down planned rwy
Cross key 2200-2300 feet AGL, 120 knots, gear down, perpendicular to rwy
Low key 1,500 feet AGL, 120 knots, gear down, flaps t/o, abeam TD point
Base key, 600-800 feet AGL, 120 knots, gear down, flaps LDG as required
Final, 110 knots, gear down, flaps LDG as required, 1,000 minimum final
Land first ⅓ of runway

Q

Energy management (5.18.5)

Low energy, How do you correct?
