11-202 V3 and 11-217 V3 Flashcards
When DO you file IFR
I-WANA
1) IFR Flight Plan
2) Bad Weather is Predicted
3) Along a Federal Airway (within 4 miles and 180 knots)
4) Night Flight
5) Flying in Class - A Airspace
Required Weather
1) Prevailing weather ETA +/- 1 hour must be at or above lowest compatible approach to file.
2) Tempo conditions may be below published minimums within the ETA Window
Can you file if no published approach exists
1) yes
2) File to a point where forecast weather +/- 1 Hour allows IFR/VFR flight to destination.
Weather For An Alternate
1) Must file an Alternate when Weather is below 2,000 and 3.
2) MAJCOM may lower to 1,000 and 2 SM if two independent precision approaches are available
Other Conditions that require alternates
1) Radar Required all approaches
2) Required Nav aids unmonitored for all approaches
3) Destination does not have WX reporting
4) Airfield’s lowest compatible approach is above 1500 or 3
5) exception - Remote island destinations can file for a specified holding time instead of an alternate
Selecting an alternate
1) Worst forecasted weather conditions for ETA 1 hour - to include TEMPO conditions.
2) Do not include TEMPO thunderstorms, rain or snow showers.
3) A Ceiling of 1,000 or 5,000 ft above the lowest compatible min (whichever higher). With Visibility of 2 SM or 1 SM above lowest compatible minimum.
Disqualifying an alternate
1) All approaches require radar
2) all compatible approaches
3) No weather reporting
4) A NA on all compatible approaches
5) Any note disqualifying the airfield or all compatible approaches in IFR minimums section .
Fuel Requirements
1) Must have enough to a final landing, either at the destination airport or alternate airport plus reserves.
2) If filed under vis-only must have enough fuel for an approach and missed approach and ability to get to alternate destination.
3) Must have 10 Percent up to 45 mins or 20 minutes whichever is greater.
4) for alternate millage calculation - use 10,000 ft MSL best endurance.
Take-offs
1) Must be greater than 500 RVR
2) Fixed wing - must be above 1600 - RVR
- Centerline Lights, visible runway centerline markings, two operative RVR reporting systems.
Don’t take off with
1) Ice snow, frost on wings control surfaces props engine inlets or other control surfaces.
2) Do not take off near hazardous conditions.
3) Do not turn until 400 ft above departure end of runway elevation and safe airspeed.
MIn climb gradient on takeoff
1) 200 ft/nm or high if posted
2) May be 152 ft with ops sup approval.
IFR departure methods
1) Diverse Departure
2) Obstale Departure Procedure
3) Standard Instrument Departure
4) Specific ATC departure Instruction
5) Non-standard takeoff Minimums
6) MAJCOM certified procedure
Diverse Departure
1) Track runway centerline 400 ft above DER elevation before turning on course.
Obstacle Departure
1) trouble T
2) Dictates Reduced takeoff Runway Length at times
3) visual climb over Airport (must have MAJCOM training for it)
SID
Standard Insturmet Departure - follow procedure as published.
- must have at least 200 ft per NM climb rate.
