109. Amphibious Operations Flashcards
What is the mission of the Amphibious Task Force?
Navy task organization formed to conduct amphibious operations.
The ATF staff ensures troops, equipment, and supplies are landed at the prescribed times, places, and in the formation required by the LF scheme of maneuver. The ATF commander exercises overall control of ship-to-shore movement and is also responsible for land forces debarkation until termination of the amphibious operation.
Discuss the Commander Amphibious Task Force and Commander Landing Force relationship as it pertains to amphibious operations.
The CATF executes ship-to-shore movement in accordance with the previously approved plan. He is responsible for making any major changes. Since a major change may affect the troop scheme, the CLF must be consulted. If the CLF desires to make a change in plans which affects the ship-to-shore movement, he will obtain the approval of the CATF, who will then promulgate the change.
Discuss L-Hour as it applies to ship-to-shore movement.
In amphibious operations, the time at which the first helicopter of the helicopter-borne assault wave touches down in the landing zone.
State the phases of Amphibious Operations.
“PERMA” o Planning - receipt of initiating directive or activation order
o Embarkation - forces move to staging areas with equipment and supplies and embark in assigned shipping
o Rehearsal - period when the CATF and the CLF test plans and orient elements with plans and test comms.
o Movement - force moves from point of embarkation (POE) to assigned positions in amphibious operational area (AOA).
o Action - Period of time between the arrival of assault force in the objective area and accomplishment of the ATF mission
What is a raid?
An operation involving a swift incursion into or the temporary occupation of an objective to accomplish an assigned mission followed by a planned withdrawal.
What is a feint?
An offensive action involving contact with the adversary conducted for the purpose of deceiving the adversary as to the location and/or time of the actual main offensive action.
What is a demonstration?
Intended to confuse the enemy as to time and place of main offensive, no contact with
enemy. Think Decoy
What is an assault?
Involves the establishment of an LF on a hostile or potentially hostile shore.
