a. ADNS: (Automated Digital Networks System) Provides voice, video, and data services to fleet units.
b. CUDIXS: (Common Users Digital Information Exchange Subsystem) provides a 2400 baud full duplex interface, over a satellite link with mobile platforms, for the receipt and transmission of message traffic between FMX and mobile platforms equipped with afloat automated systems.
c. VERDIN: Broadcast system provides a highly reliable and secure system for worldwide delivery of operational, tactical, and administrative messages from the Fleet Submarine Broadcast System (FSBS) and Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network (MEECN).
d. NOVA: a UNIX based, base-level Mode 1 store and forward terminal dependent on the worldwide switching function of the DTH to relay messages to other commands outside the immediate area of responsibility. NOVA provides automated readdressal and quote functions for authorized users. For message accountability purposes, the system assigns a unique processing sequence number to each message received.
e. IBS: (INTEGRATED BROADCAST SYSTEM) IBS has integrated several existing intelligence and information dissemination systems into a single system of broadcasts that will allow for the receipt of data via a single receiver (the joint tactical terminal). IBS will disseminate threat avoidance, targeting, maneuvers, force protection, target tracking, and target/situation awareness information, and will be continuously refined by data from national, theater, and tactical sensors.
f. INMARSAT: (INTERNATIONAL MARITIME SATELLITE) The Inmarsat HSD system continues to be a critical communications path for SIPRNET, NIPRNET, and telephone ship-to-shore access for all Navy ships less the CV/CVN/LHA/LHD/AGF and LCC classes. This multipurpose SATCOM system provides both simultaneous voice and IP data up to 128 Kbps.
g. DMS/NREMS/AMHS: Provides simplified message drafting, coordination and release of outgoing messages and a message internal distribution and delivery function for incoming messages. NREMS(NAVY REGIONAL ENTERPRISE MESSAGE SYSTEM) is the initiative to reduce the number of Navy DSP sites from five to two, eliminating the need for client-server DMS architecture and eliminating need for FORTEZZA cards / readers at the command desktop. NREMS provides web-based messaging capability that allows users (with accounts) to send and receive DMS messages using a web browser or via SMTP. AMHS(AUTOMATED MESSAGE HANDLING SYSTEM) provides simplified message drafting, coordination, and release of outgoing messages and a message internal distribution and delivery function for incoming messages
h. VTC: Video teleconference is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions simultaneously.
i. DCO: (Defense Connect Online) used by government employees to obtain time-sensitive information

A

BEADWINDOW is a real-time procedure which brings to the immediate attention of circuit operators the fact that an EEFI disclosure has (or may have) occurred. The BEADWINDOW technique uses a code word and a number combination which is transmitted immediately by any net member to the unit disclosing the EEFI. Proper response for a net member receiving a BEADWINDOW will be “ROGER OUT” using proper net call signs

a. Meaconing: Is a system of receiving radio beacon signals from NAVAIDs and rebroadcasting them on the same frequency to confuse navigation.
b. Intrusion: Is intentionally inserting electromagnetic energy into transmission paths in any manner.
c. Jamming: Deliberately radiating, reradiating, or reflecting electromagnetic energy to impair the use of electronic devices, equipment, or systems. The enemy conducts jamming operations against us to prevent us from effectively employing our radios, radars, NAVAIDs, satellites, and electro-optics.
d. Spectrum management: To plan, coordinate, and control electromagnetic spectrum use at the Service, CINC JFMO, and JTF levels.

  • Date time group (DTG): assigned for identification and file purposes only. It consists of six digits. The first two digits represent the date, the second two digits represent the hour, and the third two digits represent the minutes. Next follows the month, followed by the year. Example: 220001Z NOV 98
  • From line: identified by the originator prosign FM (meaning “FROM”) and contains the designation of the originating station.
  • To line: It is identified by the action prosign “TO” and contains the designations of the Action addressee’s.
  • Info line: It is identified by the prosign “INFO” and contains the designations of the information addressee’s.
  • Classification/declassification line: The first line of the text and immediately follows the BT that separates the heading and text. This line indicates the message classification and provides the Standard Subject Identification Code (SSIC) that identifies the subject matter of the message. The SSIC is preceded and followed by two slant signs and always contains five digits corresponding to the particular subject matter, preceded by the letter N. Example: UNCLAS //N02000//
  • Subject line: The subject line indicates the basic contents of the message.
  • Passing instructions: Specific elements at the beginning of the text, these elements may be flag words, code words, subject lines, for, from, pass to and outgoing/incoming message references. These elements are a means of indicating that the text of the message is to receive the attention of the indicated individual or office without necessarily limiting the normal distribution.
  • Reference lines: Reference lines are used to avoid repeating lengthy quotations or references within the text of a message. A reference may be any message, document, correspondence, or telephone conversation that is pertinent to the message.
  • Amplifying information line: Used for a single reference.
  • Narrative information line: Used for multiple references.
  • Text: The part of the message that contains the thought or idea that the drafter desires to communicate.
  • Precedence: speed of handling

During its imposition, no electronic emitting device within designated bands, including personal communications devices will be operated unless absolutely essential to the mission. The OTC or his designated subordinate commander is responsible for imposing EMCON. Ships should notify their Shore Station of scheduled periods of EMCON. EMCON may be used during periods of radiation restriction, man aloft, air operations etc.
