10.3 - Transcription in Eukaryotes Compared Flashcards
1
Q
How does transcription in Eukaryotes vary?
A
(1) Histones have major role = chromatin
(2) The initiation complex is unstable by default
(3) 3 levels = 1 enhance/activators, 2 mediators, 3 TFs
2
Q
Do archaea work differently?
A
Archaea probably use different proteins but that are more like bacteria than eukaryotes. In archaea there is chromatin but histones wrap the DNA differently and not as tightly. Archaea transcription factors probably work more like bacterial systems.
