How many senators can each state have, and what is the total number of senators?
2 per state, total 100
The framers hoped that the smaller sneate would be more…than the house
The senate would be a more enlightened and responsible body than the House. Many thought that the house would be too often swayed by the impact of events and by the passions of the moment
What does each of the members of the Senate represent?
They represent an entire state
All of the members in the Senate represent what kind of population (is it big, small, diverse, etc)
IT is a much large and diverse population
When are senators elected>
They are elected in November. ONly one senator is elected form a state in any given election
Before the coming of popular elections, what do the state legislatures do?
They pick out well liked and qualified men to be senators.
HOw long are the Senator’s terms
6 years
Senators have staggered terms. What does this mean?
That only a 3rd of them expire every two years.
What are the qualifications needed for Senators?
- Must be atleast 30 years of ag
- Have been a citizen of the United States 3. INhabited the state from where he/she is elected
