10.2 part 2 Flashcards
What do protons do in static electrcty
They don’t move, stay in one place.
Static discharge
transferring of electrons from one object to another
What causes sparks?
sparks happen when there is enough force to move electrons quickly across a gap.
Van de Graaff Generator
a machine that produces an electrostatic
charge by rubbing a belt.
Why can a person’s hair stand up when they touch te Van de Graff generator
The Rubber belt rubs against a comb, which removes electrons leaving a positive charge on the belt. A positive charge is collected in the dome. Since the hair follicles are a positive charge and are getting charged to another positive charge(the dome), they repel each other.
How does an atom get a positive charge
when electrons get knocked or pulled away from an atom
How is the flow of electrons created
When electrons break free and get attached to another atom
How do electrical charges get electrical energy
Electrical charges seperate
Current(electric current/current electricty)
Movement of electrons through a wire
What do electrons do if there’s a closed circuit
The electrons move along the wire to the positive charge.
Electrical energy
energy that is caused
by moving electric charges.
Static electricty/ electrostatic charge
build up of charge on an unhcagred object or surface
Object that is discharged or earthed
An object that has any excess electrons removed
Resistance
Is a measure of how difficult it is for electrons to
move through an object.
ohm
unit of resistance
