What is line maintenance?
Any maintenance carried out before flight
What is base maintenance?
Involves the removal of an aircraft from service, usually more than one day and up to 30 days
What is support staff?
In Base Maintenance, the Cat-B engineers are known as support staff as they are supporting the Cat-C engineer who is in overall control of the base maintenance
What does a category A licence allow?
permits the holder to issue certificates of release to service following minor scheduled line maintenance and simple defect rectification within the limits of tasks
What does a category B1 certificate allow?
permit the holder to issue certificates of release to service
What does a category B2 licence allow?
to issue certificates of release for minor scheduled maintenance and simple defect rectification for tasks that they have been specifically trained and authorised to carry out
What privileges does a category B2L have?
maintenance performed on electrical systems;
maintenance performed on avionics systems within the limits of the system ratings specifically endorsed on the licence ad work on engines if they hold the airframe system
What privileges does a category B3 have?
Maintenance on aeroplane structure, power plant and mechanical and electrical systems and work on avionics that only require simple tests
What privileges does a category L licence have?
maintenance performed on aircraft structure, power plant and mechanical and electrical systems;
work on radio, Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT) and transponder systems; and
work on other avionics systems requiring simple tests to prove their serviceability
What privileges does a c licence holder have?
permit the holder to issue certificates of release to service following base maintenance of the aircraft. The privileges apply to the aircraft in its entirety
